Sneak Peek! Mysterious new figure 'greens' from Empress Miniatures.

ZULUS!

As part of
our brief to produce historic figures our first release of Zulus may cause surprise
to many. They are not covered in regimental or tribal distinctions nor weighed
down by ceremonial regalia. Based on recent research we show here the Zulu
warrior as he appeared in battle. Stripped of virtually everything and ready
for action.
This is
what Tommy Atkins faced at battles such as Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift.
The first
packs will be 8 married and 8 unmarried warriors. The majority are open handed
so that they can carry various weapons and shields which will be
included in every pack. Shields used were of both the older large size as well
as the more modern fighting shields. Firearms were very common due to a pre war
policy of trading for muskets. These trade muskets were predominantly of the
flintlock and percussion variety. Martini Henry’s were very rare and theories
suggesting that the units at Rorke’s Drift carried them after looting the British
bodies at Isandlwana are illogical as the units had missed the action. As the
war progressed and more defeats were inflicted upon Lord Chelmsford army the
Martini Henry became more available.
In order to
add even more flexibility to these warriors Paul Hicks has sculpted them in a
way that it is possible to bend arms slightly for more variety.
Future Zulu
warrior releases will show these chaps in more regalia for the traditional look
that some collectors may require.
